Love & Compassion

At the heart of House of El (God) is a simple, radical conviction: love is not just a feeling — it is an action, a calling, and a command.

"Love your neighbor as yourself — there is no commandment greater than these."
— Mark 12:31

Rooted in Love,
Moved by Compassion

House of El (God) believes that genuine faith is always demonstrated through love. We are not just a congregation that talks about love — we are a community that lives it, practices it, and extends it to everyone we encounter.

From the way we welcome strangers into our services, to the way we support families in crisis, to the way we serve our neighbors through outreach initiatives — every action we take flows from the deep well of God's love within us.

"Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God."

— 1 John 4:7

This is not passive love. It is love that shows up. Love that feeds the hungry, comforts the grieving, advocates for the marginalized, and celebrates the dignity of every human being made in the image of God.

The Three Pillars of Our Love

Our understanding of love is shaped by Torah and rooted in three inseparable commitments.

🤍

Love for God

Everything begins with our love for the Holy One. Through prayer, worship, Torah study, and Shabbat observance, we cultivate a deep, authentic relationship with God — the source of all love and compassion.

Deuteronomy 6:5
🤝

Love for One Another

We are called to love our fellow human beings as ourselves. In our congregation, this means showing up for each other — celebrating milestones, grieving losses, sharing resources, and building genuine, lasting community bonds.

Leviticus 19:18

Love for the World

Tikkun Olam — repairing the world — is the outward expression of our inner love. We serve our city, advocate for justice, and extend compassion to those who are vulnerable, marginalized, or in need.

Micah 6:8

How We Show Love Every Day

Love is not an abstract concept here — it takes concrete, practical form through our programs and ministry.

Food Justice Initiative

Partnering with local farms and food banks, we ensure that no family in our community goes hungry. Every week, we distribute fresh produce, pantry staples, and prepared meals to hundreds of families.

Every Saturday

Pastoral Care & Counseling

Our clergy team provides compassionate support during life's most difficult moments — illness, grief, family crisis, and personal struggle. No one walks through hard seasons alone in our congregation.

By Appointment

Youth Mentorship Program

We invest in the next generation through mentorship, tutoring, scholarship support, and leadership development — equipping young people to be agents of love and change in their communities.

Weekdays After School

Shiva & Bereavement Support

When community members lose a loved one, our congregation rallies to provide meals, companionship, and practical assistance throughout the mourning period — honoring both the grieving and the departed.

As Needed

Neighbor-to-Neighbor Network

Our grassroots mutual aid network connects members who have needs with those who have resources — rides, childcare, home repair, job referrals, and more. Community caring for community.

Ongoing

Justice & Advocacy

Rooted in the prophetic tradition, we advocate for justice in our city — attending city council meetings, partnering with civil rights organizations, and speaking up for those whose voices are often unheard.
